Welcome to Year 6!
Our class page is here to support both children and parents, and give you lots of useful information about what is going on in our wonderful class! You will also find the latest class newsletter which gives you an overview of the current term. A photo gallery will be updated regularly at the bottom of the page to showcase all of the amazing things that we get up to!
Teaching Staff
Our Year 6 class teacher is Mrs Renwick, Miss Layton and Ms Allen.
Autumn Term
This term we will be investigating electricity. We will learn about the circulatory system, and the effect it has on our bodies. The children will be learning about Earthquakes, Mountains & Volcanoes and will be stepping back in time to learn about WW2!
Please ensure your child brings a water bottle into school daily along with their Reading book / Reading records.
Children are encouraged not to bring in their own pencil cases and items from home.
Please give school a ring or pop in if we can ever be of any help.

Key Stage 2 Homework Expectations and Help
Compulsory homework includes reading at least four times a week & learning their times tables to prepare them for end of year statutory assessments. Times Tables Rockstars & Hit the button will continue to be used in class, and can be accessed at home. This term’s homework will include: A Maths sheet to consolidate that week’s learning, a spelling sheet, in which the children will need to learn the spellings ready for a weekly test, and a piece of Literacy homework. This homework will be set weekly on Friday, to be completed for the following Friday, and will be expected to be completed to a good standard.
After Christmas, the children will be preparing for the end of Year 6 SATS, so extra homework and workbooks will be sent home in order for the children to be as prepared as they can.
Reading
As always, we will be relying on your support to ensure that the children are reading to an adult at home at least four times a week. Including fiction and non-fiction literature would help to broaden your child’s awareness of what is out there to read. This could include newspapers, magazines, leaflets, posters, comics, story books, information books, the list is endless. Asking your child questions about what they have read, will also help with their understanding of what they have read. Each child has been given a plastic zip wallet with a brand new reading record, a stage book, a reading for pleasure book and a bookmark. Please can you acknowledge daily that you have heard your child read, whether this is with a short comment or just a signature. Your child must bring their reading book and reading record into school every day.
Times tables
Timetables: Children are expected to practise their times tables every day. Each child has their own Times tables rockstars login which can be used at home.
PE Days
Your child in Year 6 will be doing PE on a Monday and Thursday. As before, the children will be expected to come to school in correct PE kit on their PE days:
Blue St Gerard’s PE T-shirt or Plain White T- Shirt Navy blue or black shorts / Joggers Sensible trainers
No brands / logos Shorts must be a sensible length No football shirts
