Vision Statement for Design & Technology
At St. Gerard’s Primary our vision is to provide children with the opportunity to take pride and pleasure in the creative process.
We will give children opportunities to explore and work with media, materials and food technology.
Intent
It is our intent to enable children with the skills and knowledge to prepare them for the progress through the next stage of their education and ultimately equip them with practical skills and knowledge valuable for use throughout the rest of their lives.
Implementation
We will provide a cyclical skills-based approach to learning D.T. which revisits and builds upon previous learning.
There are six key areas which the children will explore and build upon throughout their time in primary school
- Food technology
- Mechanisms and mechanical systems
- Structures
- Textiles
which are all taught throughout Key Stage 1 and 2
- Electrical systems
- Digital world
Which are introduced when children reach Key Stage 2
We will provide children with the opportunity to take a project from its conceptual stage all the way through to its completion via the processes of
- Design
- Make
- Evaluate
Food Technology will ensure children become aware of
- Cooking skills and techniques
- Where food comes from and seasonality
- Diet and nutrition
