St Gerard’s Catholic Primary School
School House Team
St Gerard’s runs a House system that is based upon 4 saints from our local area. They are:
- St Margaret Clitherow,
- St. Thomas More,
- St John Fisher
- Blessed Nicholas Postgate
As the children journey through school, they become familiar with the lives of these saints. The House Saints are displayed in the school hall along with photographs of the House Captains.
On entry to Nursery, each child is assigned to a house (the same as an older sibling if applicable) and remains a member of this house throughout their years at St. Gerard’s.
House points are awarded in class to pupils for their successes, attitude to school life, good behaviour and manners. Each week the house points are collected and totalled up by Y6 pupils and the winning house celebrated in the Friday Celebration Assembly.
The house system fosters good relationships between children in different year groups and encourages a sense of working together. At various points throughout the year, pupils have opportunities to work and celebrate together in these houses, These include celebrations/events such a house termly collective worships (during Advent, Lent and at Pentecost), sports events and Lenten Be Spirited days.
Each house has 2 House Captains, who are children in our Year 6 class who, throughout their time at St. Gerard’s, have demonstrated our school attributes. They are role models to the other pupils in the house and help organise the ‘House’ events. The ‘House’ captains also represent the school at any key events linked to NPCAT or the Diocese.
